How to use DISC in sales

by | March 5, 2026 | DISC for sale, DISC Style, Test DISC

Why is DISC effective in sales?

One of the most effective applications of the DISC model is in sales. Understanding a client's personality style allows for tailoring communication methods and increasing sales effectiveness. Each of us likes it when the other person adjusts their communication to our needs. The more effectively a salesperson can adapt to the client's needs, the more effective the sale will be.

Salespeople who understand DISC can:

  • build relationships faster
  • Understand the client
  • match the offer to the client's needs
  • to present the offer better
  • close sales more effectively

Sales to Style D

D-type client

  • I want to make a quick decision
  • interested in the results
  • doesn't like long presentations
  • Values the seller's quick responses
  • communicates directly

Best strategy:

  • show me something specific
  • focus on ROI
  • Get to the point as quickly as possible.

Sales to Style I

Client type I likes:

  • build relationships
  • values conversations with the salesperson, not necessarily about the product
  • I buy on emotion. If the product, seller, or company evokes good emotions, the chance of a sale increases.
  • doesn't like to analyze details or listen to them
  • I have a short attention span

Best strategy:

  • Relationship building
  • storytelling – appealing to images and emotions
  • Focusing on the customer and their needs, even if it involves conversations unrelated to sales.

Sales to style S

A Type S client needs:

  • sense of security, proven products that can be relied upon
  • time to decide – one must not push and accelerate decisions
  • trust – the greater the trust in the seller, the greater the chance of a sale
  • large amount of information

Best strategy:

  • show customer reviews
  • Pay attention to product stability
  • show long-term benefits

Sales to style C

Client C wants:

  • product data, statistics
  • analysis
  • as much information and detail as possible
  • time to think
  • Seller's patience in answering questions

That's why it's worth preparing:

  • reports
  • numbers
  • concrete arguments
